The Recreation and Park Dept. received 5 bids in mid-December for the Alamo Square Restroom and Irrigation Project. The lowest 2 bids are within the City’s construction budget. Currently the City is reviewing the bids for qualifications and anticipates making a recommendation for contract award in February. Construction is anticipated to begin as early as April 2016. Alamo Square will be closed to the public, and reopen in Winter 2016/17 to expedite completion of the improvements, which includes new irrigation, no-mow grass along the park perimeter, soil preparation for new plantings, and new restroom.

The Recreation and Park Dept. is striving to minimize the impact of the park closure by working closely with the Alamo Square Neighborhood Association (ASNA) and the tourism bureau to outreach to park users, neighbors and visitors on the upcoming closure.

This project is made possible through the voter-approved Restroom Program of the 2008 Park Bond, the Water Conservation Program of the 2012 Park Bond, and in particular the SFPUC Large Landscape Retrofit Grant.
